Wastegate??

I have an '01 Dodge Cummins and here recently in mid-range of my rpm's my truck kind of lugs down and spits out white smoke, it almost feels like my turbo hasn't kicked in or something. But when I mash down on the fuel it kicks in and works ok. Somebody told me my wastegate might be sticking. So I just wanted to see if anybody would know what is causing this. Thanks for the help.

What have you done to the truck? Is it stock?

Yeah, the only thing I have done to it is put an Van Aaken Box R chip on it. But besides that, it is pretty much stock.
