white smoke and popping at idle

Buddy has a 98 just had a PDP ported head put on and they fixed the KDP.... got it back now when we start it, its blowing white smoke and pops real bad.... if u drive it clears up like nothings wrong.... was told possibly a timing issue?

Any thoughts on what could b causing it..... thnx

Timing. Does it have normal power and power band?

From what he's descriping yes all seems normal after you get sum load on the engine

does it just pop and smoke right at startup or at does it do it consistantly at idle? Hard start as well?

It could be the return overflow valve is what I was getting at... I had a bad one on a 97 i had and it would start real hard and stumble and white smoke like crazy. That little thing effects a lot of things. Only like 25 -30 bucks unless you want an adjustable one.
