  • The QSB pistons are a smaller bowl, this is why you will need to
change your tips. The stock tips throw a wider pattern of fuel.
I would check in your area for a shop. I didn't realize where you lived.
In search, look for shops in your area. There are guys in your area with fast trucks.
I attempted to reply to your pm but rules won't let me do it so I am using this route again, sorry.
I will be calling Tim about the pistons and injectors. Someone posted that the QSB injectors are marked 300 bar while the truck injectors are marked 275 bar. If true this would mean to me that QSB is HD and if I get the ones rated for 480 hp I think that would be a good place to start without further modification. Are your extra injectors QSB or truck? My injectors only have 32K miles on them and seem to work perfectly so I could easily start with them.
I live In Denver and Middle of Nowhere along US-50 close to the NV/UT border so freight would be a lot but I will talk to Tim about machine work - I want lots done.
Thank you for your very prompt response. I have gotten a lot of information out of your many well written posts.

    Hello,
    STD QSB480 piston #4955622. $165.70 total $994.20
    Piston ring set #4955625 $ 48.25 $289.50
I sent my injectors threw TRE Diesel, Tim Barber
The spray pattern will need to be changed for piston.
Tim also did all my engine work. Great guy. He is in Norfolk VA.
Tim is also a cummins dealer, for all your parts.
I live in upstate NY, there is no one here I would trust to do
my work. I have a set of stock injectors That I would sell
if you want a spare set. I also have 2 sets for my truck.
I am going to do a major upgrade to my low mileage perfect running 2004.5 5.9 and I am reading tons of old forum threads. Found one where you mention that you used QSB pistons and injectors in your '05. Any chance you have the part numbers in an easy to find place? I like the idea of putting in stock QSB 480 injectors and pistons but not many seem to have done it and nobody talks about engine model / part numbers.

Second question if you don't mind: Name and location of your favorite machine shop?

I don't have 10 posts so forum rules won't let me pm or email so I am trying this.

    Thanks,
