  • Until then, we know there is an issue, would like to nip it in the bud before it becomes big... breakdown... tow.... rebuild... no thanks! OH! Do you think it could be as simple as needing an ECM update? We do most of the maintenance and work on the rig ourselves. Have Insite with full access, but not InCal. I'm running 7; if I had the ECM recalibrated at a dealer, is there a chance I'd be locked out of Insite until I upgrade to 8? I'm not ready for that yet :)
ANY help, advice, info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time. My direct email is:

    Thanks, Miriam
While turbo out, cleaned all accessible sensors, dpf filter, replaced a handful of gaskets, clamps, etc. Truck is all back together, cruising down the road, and the exhaust temps are still high - maybe even a little higher now (650s). Only put 160 miles on her today, so not long enough for it to want to do a regen yet to see how that will go.
What do you think about these temps? And even with the brand new turbo and actuator, the turbo still has an abnormal whine at about 30psi, and ALMOST what I think is a cough or backfire? Could this be the EGR valve/cooler? We are not using any coolant or oil above normal consumption (less than a gallon each between oil change intervals of 25,000). We baby the rig - we pull light loads, we don't haul ass, keep her in the rpm sweet spot for great fuel economy, which btw has slowly fallen over the last few months as well. I just wish this fancy pants motor would throw a code so we could diagnose and fix.
Hi - Reading through your posts, thought I'd give it a try to run this by you and see what you think?
    2012 ISX15 CM2250 in a Volvo VNL 379,000 miles
Exhaust temp is running high under no load cruising around 60mph, flat land. 600's now, where it used to be 300's and 400's under same conditions.
Last trip across the country, wouldn't complete an active regen. (The Volvo shows on the dash when it initiates a regen going down the road.) Our average for the life of the truck is about 1100 miles between. Lots of city or heavy, maybe 700/800, sometimes as high as 1300/1500 miles between them. For the last couple of months, averaging about 750 miles between regens. Last trip, maybe 100 to 300 miles before it would try again. After 3 failed attempts, it finally threw a code. We initiated and completed a parked regen through Insite. Tested actuator and turbo, replaced both.
