1000 hp single

Im in the process of building an 04 cummins and we are shooting for a goal of over 1000hp on a single with fuel only. Ive got a few calls in to places but
I thought Id post up and get everyones opinion on what to use, and see if anyone else has succeeded in accomplishing this yet. The engine will be balanced, 12v england rods polished and shot peened. Bored .020 with QSB 480 pistons with valve reliefs. maxspool springs, and a custom cam from Greg. A Banks intake manifold, some rough head porting by me and then honed at extrude hone. Injectors are 63 LPM from JL and the pumps will soon be a pair of stage 2s from Floor it. Smarty and a Painless pressure box will be used for electronics. Any suggestions on a single turbo that will be able to acomplish 1000hp, some limited driving on the street, and pulling?

Its gonna take some tuning, but first thing you are going to need is a big external gate. You need a charger with a turbine small enough to spool quick, and the gate will help it flow on the big end.

You plan to hone the cylinder head, but not the nozzles?

Nozzles are 63lpm from John Link. I am not going to do anything to them except get them checked right now.

What class are you wanting to pull in?
No specific class really. Will probably end up at brush pulls mostly.

I'd say at least an S480, probably bigger. A turbo that big will take forever to light on the street, so as long as you're ok with crappy street manners, I'd put the biggest turbo on you can spool.

They say there are 1000hp 2.6 trucks out there... but they have some high dollar parts on them. I would think you could pull it off with a 3.0. Either way its probably going to be custom, so you might just find your favorite turbo builder and have them build you one.

475 would work I think. The problem with the CR is RPM. Big chargers like the RPM.

Not gona happen with out nitrous or a stand alone ecm! Weve built 1000+hp single trucks with nitrous but fuel only is a pipe dream.

Just being honest.$.02

A lot of the 1000hp pullers are quoting crank numbers, which would end up being about 700-800 at the wheels.

With enough work to the airflow of the engine and the right planning into the charger I believe it can be done. Probably going to need to be grossly overfueled IMO

Its a stick so spool on the street will be a little easier to deal with. Dad is really set on trying this with a single. It doesn't have to drive like a Cadillac, But we would really like to drive some. I think a custom charger will do 1000 at the wheels on fuel with a good cam and port job. Its definitely going to take some tuning, and a standalone Is not out of the question at some point just not right this minute. Are the rest of the parts in yet Snedge?

To get it to make 1000hp on a chassis dyno, you need to get it to spool as fast as possible. I would agree with Getblown5.9, but I think a ball bearing charger might be better than an s400. Not familiar with them though, so I cant suggest one...

i made 821 with a single s474 on fuel and i believe with more fuel i couldve gotten close 1000

dont quote me but i believe Bean Did 999.7hp with his single 2.8 charger on smarty tst stack a while back before he started playing with ecm but i could be wrong.

I was over 1000 with spray with both a silver bullet 66, and then over 1100 with a k31,,, but that was about 200 hp of spray both times
