New 6.70/5.90 drag truck build.

Why did you go to a manual master

Less weight, less stuff in the way, it will take some stress off the PS pump which doesn’t really like the RPM, and either my hydro boost or master cylinder was having issues and wouldn’t hold boost at the line. They were about $300 to replace, this was $100. If it doesn’t do what I want I can go back to hydroboost.

Update:

So the manual brake setup won’t hold over about 15psi. Lol I am going to change up the factory pedal ratio to something with a bit more leverage, I think it will make a big difference.

The truck runs and drives again, DOM at Tenacity Tuning got me fixed up with some tunes and I got my 5 position switch installed which should come in really handy for index racing.

I have a lot to do this next week before we leave for Ennis, TX for the Texas Truck Jam race. I will be running in Pro Limited Friday and 6.70 on Saturday.

I was just watching a video of you racing a big tire camaro and got this notification. Glad you are getting all the bugs worked out.

You can go with a small pinion brake.
Buddy of mine went with one on his 2wd.

He bought a drift brake kit with it's own master cyl and h
Handle. Its extremely effective.

I am going to a Logan Built 3 speed trans with a trans brake. I have decided to focus on making the truck consistent and reliable verses adding a bunch of power to go faster.

I am constantly making small changes and trying to improve things. I swapped to a power steering pump off a hemi truck, and it fixed the power steering issue I was having at the end of the track. I moved the nitrous tank inside the cab, put some buttons on the steering wheel for the upcoming trans brake and bump box, etc.

I want to swap to a smaller rear mounted radiator, electric water pump, and a On3 intercooler. I am having belt issues so I want to change up the pulley setup on the front of the engine to lose some weight and get rid of unnecessary parts.

What’s the details on the power steering pump and 3 speed. Always over driven?

I would lose power steering at the end of the track after a run, I assume to cavitation in the oil. Once it sat for a little while everything came back. The pump off a gas engine handles the RPM much better.

On the trans, it uses a plate instead of OD clutches so it is always on. It’s supposed to improve 60ft and should gain a little ET with one less shift.

Finally! I got a new phone with a working camera!

Here are some pics showing the switches on the steering wheel for my upcoming trans brake and smooth stage bump box.

The power steering pump I used is referred to on the “bolted rear cover” version. I am debating doing a write up on this conversion as it fixed a pretty common issue with high RPM trucks.

My project at the moment is welding up the rear differential... these are some of the beefiest carriers I have seen in a stock truck. Pretty impressive, all gear driven with no clutches.

Has he ran the trans like that before? Back in the day it used to tear some stuff up.

I haven’t heard of any issues, what parts were breaking?

I think Milliken was running a similar setup in miniwheat for a while, and I vaguely remember him fighting some issues. Maybe reach out to him if you wanted some feedback.

If that's what Logan is running in JPs truck, then I wouldn't be scared to run it at all. It definitely seems like they've got that truck figured out.

Have you looked into any other platforms? Maybe a 400?

Got the carrier welded up this morning, we will see how it does. I lost 8.6lbs out of the carrier, so that’s good news.

how are you getting the staging limiter to work? been talking to johnny at stainless, and he cruised over it like I should know. I have a very similar setup to the one just listed and am curious about the staging limiter. Obligatory bad ass build comment!

I use the 849 ECM and a switch to ground. I think I put all that in this thread somewhere. I appreciate it!
