Torque Wrench

WV Stud

Hillbilly
Looking at finally buying one of my own,I usually just use a friends when I have needed one in that past. What would be a good choice? The rest of my tools are craftsman other then my ratchets which are snap on's.I am a firmly believer in " you get what ya pay for" so I am looking for a pretty decent one that is simple to use.

Love my digital snapon with the angle in it. Not cheap but when your doing head bolts that call for a specific angle its dead accurate.

Also have a cheaper ampro that I started on and for the 50 bucks it was the best bang for the buck. Got it at Advance Auto with a lifetime warrenty.

Is yours the one that beeps? I demo'ed one from my snap on guy and it vibrated and I hated it but to each his own

To me a torque wrench is something that you should only buy once, so spend the coin on a good one. I've got the 1/2" drive 50-250ftlb Snap-On. I think they go for around $300.

The Techangle's vibrate and beep. I have two and they are nice where you have the space to grab them in the right spot on the handle. They're also nice because they read torque in real time and will hold the max tq when you let off so you can watch to see if a fastener is starting to give, say over torquing head bolts. When it comes time to get in tight spots, I'd take the 1/2 beam click style. If you can't see the display, you can't see if it randomly decided to turn off, which happens. Other times it turns off because you grab it wrong and loosen the battery cap. Other times you grab it and hit a button, then have to cycle back to your setting. They're just a pain for cramped spaces.

Whatever you get, just make sure it has the flex head. That extra 15* is the difference between cussing and busted knuckles, or clearing that (dual cp3, turbo, bracket, master cylinder, etc.....) and moving on with your day.

I do not care what anyone says those CDI's are not the same as the Snap On ones. My Techwrenchs are over 10 years on multiple service trucks with 0 issues. I bought 6 of the CDI compujunk3's and not 1 wrench lasted over a year without being returned. I personally have dropped a Snap on into a few feet of water in a pump crock and it still works perfectly. A few drops of moisture on the CDI's buttons and the display goes to all 8's and back for a $100 service. In a lab they might be the same but in the real world they are exactly as they are advertised. A cheaper alternative to Snap On's. I just can not believe people fall for the BS that they are the same. Right, because Snap On stays in business by offering equal quality off brand named tools for half price. LMAO

Thanks for the input everyone!!

Another question for all you big snap on guys. What is the best way to get SO tools ? I don't turn wrenches for a living but I work on mine and a few other trucks.I have 2 SO ratchets but would like to start getting more sockets, wrenches, and eventually a box.Ebay has crazy prices, some people say the guys on the trucks can be bricks so do I just order from online ?

Yes you can, but if you buy from the truck you can possibly wheel and deal if you have cash money.
