Redemption_5.9 Build

I agree 100% this is the prime candidate for a race truck and back half setup. I’ve got a local shop I’m in pretty tight with that I’ve already had look it over and we have discussed doing a back half, but in the end the funds just aren’t there yet. So while that will very likely come, it’s just going to be a little down the road.

We have talked a lot about how we are going to go a out “repairing” the frame. As of now the game plan is to cut out the bad section, which is the lower 1/3 of the frame from the doors back to where it jumps up over the axle. Then basically sleeve it with 1/4” plate and weld it inside and out. To basically rebuild that section of the frame.

Critique how you may, this is my thought process...
1) I have seen way shabbier stuff riding down the road.
2) a ton of people take a perfectly good frame and drill 4” holes in them to shed weight
3) this section of the frame was filled with BONDO... and in the past god knows how many miles of racing, daily driving, and towing, the bondo didn’t crack. That tells me that the frame wasn’t flexing any the way that it was...so what we are doing will only make it stronger and should more than hold us over to get the back half done in the future.

That’s a good project you have there. Nice shop as well.

At what point would it be easier to perform a frame swap?

Yea it’s going to be fun lol. And thanks..

If this truck was for a “customer” or a true daily driver, yea...I’d definitely do a frame swap. But for what this truck will be doing, this will definitely hold and serve it’s purpose until the time comes that we back half it

Worked on the frame a bit today. Got the bad section cut out and started cutting new material to rebuild it.

Also continued work in the engine bay. Got the turbo/manifold and all associated piping out of there. All that’s left is the aggravating drain. Gotta figure out the best way to get it out without breaking it. She’s in there. Been soaking it down with good ol PB... hopefully I can get it out. Lol.

Continued working on the wiring as well. Got right much of it pulled out of the way to clean/tuck. still have a rats nest over by the abs module to clean up. That will work itself out soon enough lol. Have I mentioned how much I hate people haha

Finally finished up rerouting the harness through the wiper cowl. Also got a chance to get the fleece distribution block and line kit put on today as well. It’s coming along slowly but surely...we are almost to the phase to start going back together, so it’s about to get fun!

Worked on a little cleaning/painting today, as well as finished up “patching” the frame for the time being. I didn’t get any pics of that, I’ll get some next time. But I did snag some of the paint.

I spent a ton of time cleaning, and used duplicolor engine primer on the block and some vht paint, then I used the same primer on the other parts, but used a rustolium gloss black enamel, and a silver on the reservoir caps. Pics below

P.S. excuse the overspray on stuff like the rocker box and heater hose riser, all of that is getting replaced

Also cleaned up one of the wheels for it...being an old chrome weld, of course there is some pitting... but we cleaned them up pretty good seeing as we got them cheap. These are 17x10s

At the end of the sheathing prior to the connector and at the Y, is that tape or some kind of heat shrink?

I used tesa tape on the ends of the loom to hold it together and in place. Seems to work better than regular electrical tape.

More parts coming in. Got a cheap intake horn for now, as well as a nice aluminum ic pipe from Jake at Sloshfab, some FSD hose kits for the ccv and heater hoses, and shocks. Also got bilsteins for the new front ride height+shock tower deletes (not pictured)
Now to get all of this stuff off to powder

Finished up “patching” the frame, and got the front cleaned, primed, and painted. It’s pretty solid, you can jack the truck up off the ground from one side and don’t see any issues. We will keep monitoring it until we get the chance to do a proper backhalf/fix

Also worked on cleaning up the last bit of wiring on the drivers side of the engine bay. Got the intercooler and reservoirs reinstalled, ran the new heater hoses, and started making/running battery cables. Need to do something about the condenser, it’s looking kinda ragged next to the intercooler. Also have to make a couple brackets to mount the abs and tipm...but you get the idea. Lol
