10.90 Class for 2018?

I'm in the same situation. I race in 10.90 classes both in NHRA, and in local diesel races. Most of my passes in a year are in the NHRA Pro E.T. class, however. I do find the 10.90 index class adds a little extra challenge, because I tune to run 10.90.

I started racing with the NHRDA from the very beginning, and would not trade those experiences for anything. I still try to make the NHRDA races if the schedule permits and the event is close.

Just as a point of reference I make around 350 10 second 1/4 passes a year.

Paul

You race Medford all the time Paul? Maybe Tim McDaniel and I, (we both race pro) should come down one weekend and race, it would be good to see you.

Id imagine youll get a response soon, as i Know they are working on some rule changes currently. A lot of those will impact what they decide to do with 10.90. As far as the 10.50 vs 10.90 goes, i think a lot of the reason for the 10.90 was to try and keep away from guys running 135-137mph if they have to run someone down, and then getting disqualified for not having a chassis cert and 10 point cage. Most of the 10.50 races are actually 6.70 races on 1/8 mile. Either way, most trucks that can run a 10.90, can run a 10.50. so i cant see that rule change making a difference, one way or the other.

Personally, in a perfect world youd see Pro Street and Super Street merge, creating a Pro Class supported all over the country by different orgs and have 16 truck fields every race. all of the ODSS races seem to have 6-10 PS trucks, and half of the NHRDA races seem to have 6-8 SS trucks. At this point, the money, time, and horsepower between a SS and PS truck is basically the same.

I think this would free up some of the slower SS trucks to go index racing. At the end of the day, people still need to get out and race. Its the same guys at every race that do what it takes to make it and go out and compete and have fun. The other 90 percent you see on the internet, social media, etc, would rather talk about it, complain, ask for classes and rules, for a sport they have no REAL intention in competing in anyways.

Looks like to me all the NHRDA races are suffering with fewer competitors and very few spectators. Diesel racing is not a good spectator sport and the events are so strung out that the travel to each event is expensive and time consuming. Use to be a good number of contingency sponsors upwards of 15 or so, how many this past year about 4 or 5?

As Rob said it's way more fun to race when there are a lot of competitors like we have at the local tracks with the gas rigs. There very few break downs or oil downs which plague diesel events. As far as the classes go, the ones that carry the diesel events are the sportsman and the 11.90 index. There are a lot of guys who don't want to put a cage/roll bar in their street truck. Talking about trying to get a faster class when the current ones are pretty much a bust doesn't make much sense.

You would be better off trying to talk your local track into a diesel class or race the gas cars.

Oil downs are not so much of a problem anymore. Also faster classes create race specific trucks. People can build from a bare chassis rather then a expensive running truck. Makes it a lot more affordable. I think faster classes are a good thing

We kind of follow the weather. Usually start in Sacramento with the New Years day race, and will race their until Woodburn opens up. Then will mainly race Woodburn and Medford.

I wish there was a budget minded All-out class... Weight minimum, Turbo Spec, No Drugs... ETC. That Seems like alot of fun to me...

But I think Rules/ Enforcement would be the biggest Challenge here.

Would get way out of hand. There is no such thing look at sled pulling.

I definetly agree. I just wish there was a way.... Kind Of Like an Early 2000's Pro-Street Field.

Trust me I get you. I am caught in a limbo myself. My truck next year will be ahead of 90% of the pro street trucks 5 years ago chassis and technology wise. But I can't justify the power plan needed to run an all out class

Exactly, I hate to look over here and see the same exact problems that diesel racing had some 10 years ago. There's been enough time to figure all that out. Exactly why lots of the fastest run mostly Gas index races, a good racer wants competition not a easy win between 3 or 4 cars. Index is where it's at and has been for at least 6 or 7 years for sure. 90 percent of my few years diesel racing was Gas events running 5.00, 5.80, and 6.00 index. Was a blast.
In this much time the Other goof balls should have fizzled away or they 'got together' and had every class set up as an index, possibly expect for Top Diesel but even then you just do it as a 6.00 index and let the boundaries continue to try and be pushed.

I agree Ryan!!!

For those of you that want some fun reading!

Damn this is like old home week, first Paul and then Greg aka Dockboy. Thought you were dead it has been so long since I've seen you post. I usually ck in everyday but don't post much anymore. I did read that old thread, and Greg you were right. Hate to tell you that but you were. I take it you don't race trucks anymore either?

1/8th mile racing has had alot to do with having less carnage

Called and spoke to JJ at nhrda. He said all classes will stay the same for 2018. They will be looking at possibly making changes to all classes for 2019. I mentioned to him about making a faster index then we talked about pro classes as well. I mentioned to level the field and draw more competitors to possibly leave pro street the way it is and maybe look at limiting super street somehow, I mentioned maybe make it a single turbo class or limit the size of atmosphere turbo in compounds. Also said I would like to see a 10.50 index

Hey Ken...Hope you are doing well!!!

I got to a point with racing that I was going to have to either jump in deeper or quit altogether. I decided the latter because I was already spending $30k or so a year and to top it off my wife hated that I was gone all the time!!

Now I just mess around with my yellow car and play lots of golf!!

I really do believe that if diesel racing had taken some of the "inclusion" suggestions or did safety break index classes years ago it would be in much better shape!!:bang

I still go up to the track and watch periodically and the local monthly race with the index classes I had proposed back then always have 30-60 competitors in each class....but what do they know!!!

I just spoke to Randy and he said they are looking at possible changes this winter in time for competitors to make changes for the 2018 season.

I feel that suggestions will be listened to by the sanctioning bodies as they want to see the truck count up also. If you have competed in any of the pro classes with either organization, then please list/send your input and thoughts.

Well he said at this time they're keeping the classes the same so I guess something changed.

I too believe they will listen if you get people to be more involved and give more input
