Triples & Header Build on Big Angry

427 pages is nuts lol. Thats more than will terry's original thread on junker drag truck isn't it?

I was joking about that green pipe. I fully assumed he was going to finish it LOL

Yeah.. Crazy big thread.

Oh yeah, I figured you were messin around. lol

Time to get back after it. Should be able to have it 99% done today.....forgot to order the 3" flex coupler to go on this section of hot pipe and I need the -12 to dual -10 y-adapter for the drains. Need to do these last couple pieces, tie in the wastegate, do the exhaust and it'll be all set.

theres alotta schidt hangin offa that manifold.
no acct for twist..or flex?

The manifold is only supporting 2 of the turbos. Although, still ample amount of weight, it's not carrying all 3. The lower-most turbo is supported by a bracket bolted to the block.

Is he worried about the outer charger spooling slower with the smaller pipe and a hard angle?

Will both turbos get the same airflow with the way you did the hotpipe? obviously the one farther away will be getting exhaust that has been cooled a bit. Any concerns about that?

It's not going to make a "huge" difference. It's not in the ideal spot up higher on the elbow so the exhaust has a direct shot into the pipe but over half of that second hot pipe is into the radius of the elbow and the rest is in the reducer so it should be fine. Also, the way I'm dumping the wastegate flow into the hotpipe will direct a bit at that pipe as well.

Using that schedule 40 you'll see negligible heat loss over that distance at the speed that exhaust travels. Schedule 40 in those pipe diameters is close to 1/4" thick. I want to say the thinnest walls I have on this piping is .203" and that's on the outside radius of the 2.5" elbows.

There are places you have to compromise sometimes and I really didn't feel like cutting into the firewall for pipe fitment. If I wanted to get a bit sexier with it I could section out a piece of pipe and weld it in where the elbow meets the top of the pipe and make the entry a bit more tangent to the outside radius, but that's a chore for another day.

Little closer

Got the entire hot side buttoned up today. All that's left is to tie in the gate to the hotpipe and make the exhaust.

Photobucket is acting stupid, I'll upload the pics when it's working again.

Okay, photobucket finally stopped acting stupid, so here are the pics from yesterday evening...

Used a 3" Vibrant Armor-Flex coupler on the second hotpipe to allow for expansion, flex and misalignment on the hot side.

Had to make a shim for the inside diameter because it's sized for tube not pipe, so a 3" coupler is about 3/16" too big for the pipe....easy fix.

update.....

....

Didn't get them in the truck, BUT they are done and ready to go in. Once they're in the truck I can make the exhaust and the charge pipe and these suckers are ready to rip...

Started out by blowing it all apart so I could work with just the hot side parts in place...

Then I got the wastegate all plumbed in...

This is what the inside of the hot pipe looks like....

All welded up...

Blew it all apart, painted the hot side, and cleaned up the cold side....

Did the final prep on the center sections while everything else was drying...

AND PUT THESE SUCKERS BACK TOGETHER!...

Little update... Getting close

Well, I was planning on dropping these suckers in this evening but I had a real lack of motivation hit me. I was gonna wait and do the drains once it was all in the truck, but I at least got those done.

20160205_174054.jpg

And I did a quick mock-up of the plan for the exhaust. This is kinda what it'll look like. That outside pipe will obviously get rotated in more and I''ll merge it right into the 4" to 5" transition point so it's a true 5" all the way out.

I doubt I'll get them stuffed in this weekend, I just have too much to get done and I have 2 tests to study for, so these are gonna have to wait.

...

Aaaaaaaand, we have fire!

Got them suckers stuffed in and fired 'er up for the first time in months.

Just need to do the charge pipe to the intercooler and the exhaust and she'll be ready to eat.

I've got some video of it running with and without the pipes on, I'm just waiting on them to upload.

Word is Rich had it running and did a few test hits. Major tuning work to be done since it was tuned for a large single and some squeeze.... Shouldn't be long though. He has to finish the exhaust though. These hits were with it just aimed out the side for test / tune.

Bigrpowr..... Are you referring to his turbo sizes?
