5.9 CR going in a 1984 GMC 1500

TRUCK JUNKIE
OK so I have a 2003 Dodge dually 2wd auto. Frame is bent in the rear pretty bad. So I have decided to pull the engine, trans, wiring and computers and sell the rest.

I also have an '84 GMC 1500 rcsb. It's already 4 linked, coilovers, moser 9" with 35 splines, locker, and 3.89 gears. Had a supercharged sbc in it, but the crank is injured, so it's coming out, and the diesel is going in.

I haven't started this project, as I am finishing up a few others. But I should have the engine and trans out of the 84 in the next couple weeks, so I can start boxing the frame. I will be a major pain in the ass here and am going to ask a ton of questions, but will post tons of pics. Any insight on this type of project will be greatly appreciated.

The wrecked truck has been mine since 2006 and has been very well maintained. It's the 305hp engine, and with just a bullydog it dynoed at 352/712 to the tires. It has 155k miles and the trans was recently built by Relentless Diesel in Willis,TX. I am planning to get the engine and trans in and functioning properly, then add another turbo. I have been looking into this kit.

Diggin this! Im set on doin a cr swap in my crew myself so ill be watching this! Any idea on how to wire theengineand the guages? You looking at stock gauges? Lovin this and watchin it!

I haven't been able to get started. Other crap keeps popping up. I will for sure be starting the teardowns in 2 weeks come hell or high water.

My plan is to run gauge cluster and everything out of the dodge I can, down to the evap/heater core box if possible. I'm even going to try and use the one ton rack and pinion. We'll see how it goes pretty soon I guess.

Know what ya mean by stuff gettn in the way. My problem is i cant turn down work to focus on my projects. Whats making you want to swap the heater box and cluster? I know the fan and flappers can lack a little in the "great functionality" department but seems like a bunch of added work! :Cheer: Cant wait to see some progress so make some time for this project!
