i want real led headlights

LEDs are instant on, unless there is a problem of some kind... When you are driving in traffic look at cars with an LED third brakelight and standard regular brake lights and you can see the difference in speed when they step on the brakes. The regular lights will lag behind the LED brake light by a noticeable amount.
 
I think I might have to take back a lot of my comments.......

Dont know why, but LED bulbs look like they have improved DRASTICLY in a short amount of time. Ive seen quite a lot of very good quality bulbs out there, and Im honestly thinking of going down that route when my bulbs get too dim for my liking....
 
You can retrofit LEDs into a DOT legal enclosure, but then it becomes not DOT legal.
Even if the brightness is matched, and whatever else they test for is correct the DOT need to test and certify the install and the cost would be prohibitive for anything but a manufacturer.
Which is all BS, but aside from a ticket, those standards can insulate us from unexpected litigation too.
be aware of potential legal issues and try and seek out OEM units from another application when theyre available.

Personal second gen experience here. The best I achieved was in the order of inprovement.

1. Polished non sport headlights.
2. Added relays to support battery voltage to headlights.
3. Capacitor added to keep low beams on with high beams.
4. Upgraded to Sport Headlights. (Start here and add steps #2 & #3)
5. Wet sand headlamps with 1000 grit and clear coated with quality two part polyurethane clear coat. This is not the same as the rustoleum clear coat. This is automotive body panel clear coat.

The issue is never with the light source. It is with the refraction of the produced light. Start dropping in HID or LED's into a housing that was never designed for them and you get mixed results. You may be able to see better (at the expense of blinding oncoming traffic being), or you may get degraded distribution while still blinding oncoming traffic.
