New pump time.... which one ?

2 stroke oil or any lubrication additive will help keep the timing piston alive, from the VPs I've torn apart that seems to be a common problem. I don't think the PSG is as big of an issue as everyone thinks it is, the timing piston sticking sure makes the PSG do weird stuff though.

Agree. Most of the housings that have problems are due to timing piston wear. They can only be reamed out once if I remember correctly.


I vividly recall the pump shop I worked at seeing a VP with a timing piston stuck in it so bad that It sat in an ultrasonic cleaner for a good 3 hrs just for it to get cleaned up and thrown out. The housing was pitted to the point that even reaming the housing did not remove all the pitting in the housing. Never really knew what caused the damage since the truck was outside the US.
 
What setting is the quad box on? Those things, while a seemingly viable alternative to a Bluechip and a decent timing box, are rough as hell on things.
