Cummins Satellite

I did not realize you were in Middle TN until I saw Music City Raceway. Did you run at the diesel event they had a couple of weeks ago? I didn't know anything about it until the Monday after.

Nice project.
Try the 4200 gov spring.
Pay attention to pinion angle. Start 6 down.
Get a trans brake.

Thanks
I have a 3800 in it now
I have a trans brake, took it out when car had a 540 (gas stroker)
4500 converter, Dana 60

going to work on the shift points when I get it back together

I had the car apart for the turbo swap
or I would have went

Nice car! Anything done to the 727?

took the 727 apart for inspection/ freshen
everything looked fine.

at the time didn't look for any special parts
being the tug weighed 12,000 lbs, pulling commercial airplanes.

I did notice the stall is VERY low
and had a Dana 60 > 6.17 gear

If you want more air to the filter, just take off the box that goes around it.

Its a 92 box, there is nothing to hold the filter to neck?

unlike the 90 that had a threaded rod that pass thru the filter end, secured with a wing nut
I tried to mix/match
but the boxes have different o.d. for the filter element> end that faces the engine

got the* springs installed today.(145 lbs on seat)
of course the rear cylinder was most fun
*had to drill a access hole for the head bolt to remove the rocker stand.
and a mirror to be sure the keepers were installed properly
next is to re-install the turbo
Find a track to test

had "FUN" tonight
Didn't break anything....
forgot to retard the timing, and turn up the power screw.> didn't bring any tools...

ran good considering stock injectors

times from tonight,

interesting comparing times from last week before the turbo and valve spring change.
also was 8 3/4.... 3.55 gear, now Dana 3.73

Mph stayed the same so no power increase, it did like the gear change, shows in the 60'. But why only 1.9 with a trans brake? I'd think 1.40s to 50s even with a v.e. unless the cars real heavy....that pump can make great torque it just runs out of steam early (not enough late fuel). Leave at 20 or so lbs. boost off the brake, watch the e.t drop. Ah, and run all the gear you can and still pull through the traps

Thanks
imelmo and Snedge

I'm new to diesels, learning as I go

Ryan Tucker- No Trans brake, It was in the gas trans, I've already learned about breaking drive-train parts....LOL
I want to work on the Diesel (727) shift points
plus retard the timing > It's skipped a tooth and moved to the head>> too much.
also need to turn up the fuel.
need a tach
I was just staging by what ever the brakes would hold
sometimes with the rear wheels just slightly turning...lol> havin "Fun"

SAM 3862 - YouTube

then see if the converter is still to low > out of a airport tug
after that bigger injectors

I'm all ears about what to do..

Too much timing is opposite for a diesel, it will kill low end torque and make it harder to spool the chargers for sure. Loosing the convertor can take care of that but then once lite if it makes good power it will run through it. Trans brake and a tiny tiny nitrous jet is what I always did. .024 to .032" jet is perfect. Use it to bump in and hold what ever boost you want

Thanks for that info

will be retarding the timing
I drove the truck > eng and trans came out of >1990
stock converter, had to rev eng to back up

This converter (airport tug) > Tight ( just what it was built for> tugging air craft)
I can load the car or unload from the trailer
just by selecting a gear> idle
haven't been able to find specs for it

This is why I feel the stall is to low

Now I'm looking for a tach to see where I'm at before changing converters

Are you running caltracs, cool old car!

Thanks > I like different...lol

No,
super stock springs,
springs are moved into the frame rails,
when installed spring mounts were moved up
to keep the ride height low
built 20 years ago

It really jacks up hard in the rear while staging, how did it hook with the gas motor, what kinda 60 ft's.
