South Bend Sucks

its a McLoed disc

i run your dd clutch and cant break it yet, but i recomend your other clutches to everyone, so a good friend of mine calls valair and asks about a single disk clutch and he is told he needs a dd for towing his fifth wheel because he has 37 inch tires and they wont warranty a single disc because his truck has a 100 h.p. chip and stock everything else power wise, wtf he has 70k on his stock clutch but you wont sell him a single disc, knowing full well he wont be able to tow much with a stock turbo without having egt issues, he asked about the ceramic single and they said that is for 600 h.p. trucks and wont work on his because he tows, im seriously lost on that, i told him about the trailer backing issues with the ceramic and we both decided he would be fine with the single rated at 350 h.p. 800 ft lbs, he doesnt race, mud bogg,or sled pull, who ever was at the store, told him no so i told him to go southbend and was sorry for what happened. btw i ran a single disc ceramic and towed the world, raced, mud bogged and the only time it slipped was when i launched too hard at a sled pull in 4th low back in my 600 h.p. days and the clutch is in my garage now for a rainy day and its a luke pro gold pile of junk that wont break.:blahblah1:

OK let me clear it up for you, a ceramic/ceramic clutch has no slip and can be a serious pain in the ass for towing. a kevalr ceramic is ok for towing, but our new organic dual disc is much smoother, in fact about as smooth as a stock clutch, and will hold 550 hp to the rear wheels, and its only a couple hundred bucks more than the single. for me this is a no brainer, expecially when you combine the 100 hp chip with the 37" tires and towing back hoes.

its more like a go kart i guess what i am getting at is your single cant tow as good as a stocker ???

Its not that it wont hold, its just that it will be grabby, and not as nice as the DD to tow with. That is why he recommended it...

i told him that before i posted here, even says in my first reply, already had ceramic singles in other brands including sb, he wants a stock replacement organic type single and has gotten alot of trouble free miles out of the stocker, just sounds like a sales pitch or the clutch rated at 350/800 is not as much of a clutch as the stocker. dont take this the wrong way your dd 3850 with bronze flywheel is a bad bad man i just figured your singles even the lower ones would be tougher than a stocker.

But adding a 100hp box is over 350hp on that truck, they are just abiding by the warranty.

i have sold probably 20 SB clutches, anything from the stock replacement ones all they way up to the iron giant. i run a 3600 DD in my 500+ HP personal truck as well, never had ONE problem with the clutch holding up to boosted launches, towing heavy, and downright abusing the piss out of it. as for the customer service, i have ALWAYS had good experiences with them. i have nothing but good things to say about Southbend

Yeah, South Bend sucks...

2003/2004 (can't remember now), I buy a SBC 3250 DD clutch used...Peter tells me to send in the input shaft that came with it, it may be from a bad batch, he sends me out a new shaft, no charge. I run that clutch for 150K miles, and send it in for a rebuild...Peter cuts me a heck of a deal to rebuild it, and tells me it is one of the first 5 DD's he ever built. Sell that clutch, can't remember who to, bet they still have it.

Replaced with a Con OFE 1-1/4 input...break input, sell clutch...replace with OFE for 1-3/8" input. Still holding fine, towing 35K + lbs almost every time the truck moves. I've also installed about 10 other South Bend's, even a few custom built clutches for a Chevy 454 we kept blowing clutches out of...Peter worked with me until he got it right, then took care of me on the pricing.

I've never had a single issue from South Bend Clutch that wasn't handled in a way that made me an extremely happy customer....yeah, they really suck....riiiiggghhhhtttt.

Yes even our stock replacements are tougher than a stocker, however 100 hp chip, 37 inch tires, the truck isn't stock, and the big tires take a toll on it as well. He said he was towing 16K as well, so do I tell my guys oh this one is different because the driver has had a stock clutch with this chip on his truck? I don't think so, if we recommend a clutch there is a reason for it, You don't have to buy the one we recommend, it is a recomendation, and if you buy the one we recommend and it fails then the ball is in our court. I hope you understand.

sorry for hi jacking the thread, Its threads like this one that make us look very hard as what we recommend.

They even bragged that Big Bad Dodge was running their triple. Well apparently it wasn't working for him either because he's running a Crower now.

YOUR WRONG !!!!!!! SBC Works for me.

I have a 4 disc Crower diesel glide slipper in a blow proof can. It came with the truck, different truck, as now we have a Pro Mod, then what I ran the SBC’s in before getting this truck. When I sold the original BBD it still had SBC’s first ever three disc clutch that performed flawlessly. Before that I ran thier dual discs and they too performed flawlessly as well, we moved to the 3 disc when we added more power.

I currently run a SBC dual disc is in my daily driver and tow rig that gets me to and from every pull and its performed flawlessly over the past three years towing our gooseneck trailer that weighs in at approx 16K over several high grades out this way.

For what it’s worth SBC is a valued sponsor and has been for a long time. I have nothing but mad props for thier customer service and support of the diesel industry.

Ok, Children, lets sit down and let daddy tell you a little story............

So the year is 2004, I buy a 99 P-Pumped 24v that runs pretty good. Dynoed 600HP, it has a SBC CON OFE installed by the Origional Owner, 30K miles on it, then I get the freat idea that I want to pull with it.....Needless to say I didnt think it would last long!!! Well, 10 Pulls, 6 dyno runs over 600HP, 5 drag strip passes, and about an aditional 30K miles, the clutch was still in the truck and holding strong!!!!

I finally ended up killing it when I tried to leave the line pulling at 5600RPM.......Dint work too well!!!

Not bad for a clutch rated at 450Hp!!!

Now Im a nobody and I drive up to South Bend (Auctually Mishawaka) and visit the shop to pick up a new clutch. As soon as I go in, Peter greets me by my name (I have never met him before) takes me to the DD assembly line, askes what HP rating Im at, What I want to do with it, and what the rest of my set up is. He then has them build my clutch...Well why we wait, he asks if I want a tour...Heck ya!!! Shows me EVERYTHING about the shop, then at the end, gives me all the stickers, hats and T-Shirts I want!!! And then Cuts me an AWESOME deal on the clutch!!!!!

Na, these guys are horrible!!!!

I have the big single disk and it is not a slipper! I love my valair I have a buddy that has the same setup almost same truck, and he loves his to! I have a buddy that has a sbc dd and he's around 800hp and iv drove it also and it drives fine and don't slip I do a 3rd gear boosted launch every chance I get. That's my two cents, continue....bif

It seems like the OFE's have more holding power then the FE... I've heard tons of stories about how much OFE's have held. And I roasted my FE playing in some "mud" (kind of lame excuse for mud, more like wet grass turned to mud/muddy water) with a measly low 400 hp truck, if that, at the time. It felt really spongy for about a week, then went back to being grabby. I took it out a few years ago though and gave it to a friend. Still works great in his 97 dually.
