S480 1.10 AR vs 1.32

So if I go with an 87 or 92mm turbine wheel, and smaller housing, (1.10 or the 1.25 A/R) does the efficiency go down more?

Dropping from a 96mm to a 87 is a huge difference...

BTW...did you happen to watch the video I posted to see what I had for drive vs boost pressures?

The turbine efficiency is higher with those turbines, but total flow with the 87 is less. The 92 turbine flow is less as well if the turbines are in their proper castings. Now once you drop a small housing on the 96 it will flow a little less then the 92 with the smaller castings is what we have seen from testing. The 96 is simply choked down to much in the smaller castings. The inducer of the blades is almost hanging into the scroll area which causes problems with caudal at high shaft rpms.

Jose, we had spoke on the phone about getting a different charger to replace my present S480:

Can you PM me a price for an S480:
-using your ET-R wheel and a 92mm turbine wheel in a 1.10 housing.
-using your billet wheel and a 92mm turbine wheel in a 1.10 housing. (I thought one was an 11 blade, and one is a 7 blade???)
-a price for a 92mm turbine 1.25 A/R housing. (For swap out reasons)
-a price for a 66mm ET-R wheel for a BW 66mm compressor.
-and a price for a billet 66mm wheel for the same BW compressor.

Could I order just the wheels for the compressors and swap them out, or do they need to be re-balanced?

Again, after reading too much, I feel that the 66mm may be too big as the secondary in my setup...and I'm not sure if you offer a 62-64mm compressor wheel and housing that would drop in with what I have now.

I ran a 66/480 w/1.10 T6 housing and it made too much boost for me. The 475/1.32 would make 25-30psi & 75 total but when I switched to the 480/1.10 it made 35-40psi and over 95psi total! I blew a couple head gaskets because I couldnt let out fast enough to regulate the boost and keep it spooled, so it would snuff the chargers and smoke. When the 480 lit, it slammed the gauges to the pins. this sounds great but the low inertia of the 83 turbine and tight 1.10 housing made it spool quickly but drop off just as fast.
Plus the smaller primary housing will also slow velocity through the secondary and hurt spool up of the top turbo.
I would just run the 480/1.32 96 T6. $.02

Was the 480 you speak of with the 96mm exhaust wheel?

And thank you for the info

...this was about a year and a half ago now...
What I was trying to imply was that the faster spool of the smaller housing/wheel is only part of the picture. Just like with any other turbo, smaller ex. housings make the turbo boost higher for a given RPM.
In my case at least, the 480/1.10 made too much boost.

I was seeing 25-30 psi out of the S480, and 60 psi total boost, with 70 psi drive to the secondary, and 35 psi drive to the primary.
I was thinking it would be able to break the tires loose at 50 mph...uhhhh no.

If I knew I could sell my S480/96/1.32, I would try the S480/92/1.25 with the ET-R compressor wheel and race cover.
I would sell it with the "Sound Performance" Quick Spool valve, as they are port matched together perfectly....turbine housing is ceramic coated as well.

If i didn't have a 480/96/1.32 with an ett wheel sitting on the bench downstairs I would be interested!

Any more update on this? I wanting to put twins on. Looking at a 63or60/68/.88 over a 475 or 480.. any input of drivability and spool? 04 CR with dual cp3 and injectors.

I did an 07 5.9 recently with a 63/68.91 T4 over a billet 78/96 1.10. spooled very quick and made 850hp. This was with 60% injectors,181/210 cam, ported head with sidedraft intake.

I originally had 1.32 A/R S480 on my truck and hated it... total waste of time and money IMHO.... It was way to slow to spool on my DD. I'd never recommend that charger for a truck like mine.
Spoke with Chris at E.D ended up with a 96x88 in a 1.1 housing with a E.D billet 7 blade wheel, completely changed the truck.

What year truck? Mods? What secondary? Also how about EGT change?

We all know a tighter housing will yield faster response, but what about EGTs & drive pressure?

They last dyno pull the truck made 923/1868 at only 25* (p-pump 24v). It was only revved to 36-3700 rpm (blown head gasket). egt's max'ed at ~1325.... DP gauge read 98 at 90lbs of boost... (primary was at 38psi) secondary is a E.D 66/74/14 T-3 with the billet compound wheel.

I really could care less about total power, It's just super nice to have the primary up during regular driving.... without having to kill it like my experience's with the 1.32 charger of the past.
