Anyone here with a 300hp+ ALH?

Thats cool Greg,, is it a new engine that GM has built, or are they using someone elses in that body?

Some people don't really care about 50 mpg and the car lasting 200,000 miles. These are the people that build 300+ hp TDI's.
It takes forged pistons, lots of cylinder head, and a big turbo.
The HY35 with tight exhaust housing frees up the motor so much that it spools a lot quicker than you would believe. We go 40+ psi boosts with it; I needed to back off the waste gate a little more.

This is not a cheap build , it requires forged or billet pistons, with good rings, Eagle rods, and a really good cylinder head. It was fairly smoke free as well

They have had this engine in Europe and Australia. I already have a cylinder head for it , and it is a killer part. The injection CR pump is just a smaller version of the CP3 .
I get a few complete motors fairly soon. The Beetle is going to be for sale and the motor is going to a Bonneville team for their VW pick up and we are working together on a Chevy motor for their streamliner.

With 2.0 liters of CR power in a light car, it's a bargain. I little hot rod at an inexpensive price, under $17,800 gets you a base car with a diesel.

That has been the big problem with the VW, the only way you get a diesel is a fully loaded over equipped car. There is a waiting list for VWs so they gouge the price by loading them out.

I want to buy an American made car.

Sequential, not twin.

must be like the BMW deal, I have a few compleat motors coming. can't wait to see them.

here are a few pictures I found online

Tom a great guy, he let David Kennedy and I use his shop Illinois Dyno Center during Hot Rods Drag week with Diesel Powers Project X diesel. That was when David was taking those pictures.

So back to the original subject of building a 300 hp ALH.

1st I would use a good set of rods, Eagle makes a great set of America made rods.
2nd you need a good ported cylinder head

3rd is a good cam program, I get Geoff at to Colt grind a cam to my specs. It’s a solid lifter grind with a lot of lift and negative overlap, almost identical to my 2.6 competition cams. I use my Cummins dual spring and retainers on a custom set of valves. It’s a pain in the butt to make it all work, but its necessary to make the power with lower boost and less retained heat.

4th The stock Crank is ok, but I gas nitrate and balance it. I use Polydyn coated bearing with a extra .0005 over the high side of main and rod clearance.
You have to use a good aftermarket balancer with this, such as a Fluid damper.

5th I use a set of ARP mains and 625 head studs.

6th Forged pistons are a must, and no they will not last 200,000 miles but neither will a motor north of 300 true hp.

7th The turbo has to be big on the compressor side and tight on the turbine side with a good waste gate. I have a new Borg Warner EFR turbo for the next race; I’ll let everyone know after testing.

Multiple posts sequentially in one thread, its annoying.

Not when they're 20 minutes apart, and regarding different topics, and actually contain info relevant to the thread.

You're actually getting kind of annoying though. You don't seem to say a whole lot of anything useful. Just nag, nag, nag. You fit your screen name well. Please stop mucking up this thread with your garbage.

I will be selling Project X Diesel “the Beetle” complete, or in parts, or trade, after the Oct Texas Mile, it’s been fun, but the G. M. Performance has me locked on in both the dragster and LSR stuff.
The car has a NHRA legal 4340 cage. New up to date seat belts the transmission is a fully built unity with 4.10 RP and a .63 5th gear. Peliqun 90% diff . Brass sliders and cryo gear sets. Also Diesel Geek shifter.

Good luck trying to get 300hp to hook in 1st and 2nd gears.

That is one reason for the 4.10 R P , and the bias ply slicks . I tried Drag radials and the dead hook in not right. The biased slick and steep gears allow the tire to spin and act like a clutch, coming under car about 20 to 30 feet in to the run. The steep gears also keep from breaking the transmission, an extreme weak part in the TDI

What was it's best ET?

it's been 13.27 @ 112, but its hasen't been back to the track with the new motor. We have been Land Speed racing it.

Correcting people's false information is never kindly received but is necessary to maintain the factual integrity of a discussion.
Kind of like the police; everyone says they hate cops but rant when they aren't around when needed.

Please stop mucking up this thread with your garbage.
I don't care about your opinions, they're worthless.
