Going to take my pistons to machine shop to have them fly cut for a larger cam. When the block was being cut for fire rings they decked it and eneded up taking .008 off the surface. Should i be concerned about piston protrusion or is that enough to even make a difference. Block has never been machined before, going to use the original pistons, fire ring gasket came from haisley.

Haisley's fire ring gasket crushes to .055 so you should be fine provided it hasn't been decked a time or 3 before. A mag mount dial indicator is pretty cheap.

Ya this was first time it has been touched.... head was decked about the same amount and valave job was done and set at right in the middle of factory specs....

You should degree your cam anyways and check for valve clearance, but it might be worth while to take another .010 or .020 over what the cam manufacturer recommends out of the valve reliefs when you do them.
