well time to do a build thread and to give thanks.
So last september the truck,5.9 then, dropped a valve seat and took out the head, turbo and piston. I then decided to build a 6.7 bottom and drop a 5.9 head on it. Many thanks to Rivey and Les on turbo choice, ashley for helping me decide on carrillos instead of 12v rods, and all the others who gave input and suggestions as i was gathering parts. The biggest thanks goes to Bponci for all his help, work, and being there through the whole build, and his patience when the parts i dropped off didnt fit the bill. Brad's attention to detail is second to none and his work was far better than i could have imagined. The truck was dropped off on a flatbed tow truck with the motor half taken apart, cab full of boxes of parts and bed full of used parts.

The new motor is a 6.7 block, Carrillo rods, hami 188/220 cam, 250hp ish injectors, max spool push tubes, comp ported head from zz fab, zz ab side drat intake, 75/96/1.10 T4 turbo from Rivey, steed manifold, JGS 60mm gate,6.7 marine pistons, fluidampr, twin cp3's 6.7 under dmax, and udc tuning by Gecovey.

Rod at S&H machine did all the machine work and balanced everything, this man is a true craftsman in his work and is passionate about doing things the way he would do them for his own motor. Machine work was done in extremely short time and i am very thankful for him squeezing my work in his very busy schedule.

Working with Brad and Rod were like working with family, also let with a smile on my face and confidence in how the work was being done. Due to my job and lack of space Brad Ponci did all motor assembly and all fab work and the install.
Ok enough with the jibber jabber, time for pictures.

The broken 5.9

..........Dont know why the pics arent showing up but thats photobucket for me.If a mod can fiz them that'd be awesome :thankyou2:

Tuning is still a work in progress and have had many bumps during the first 600 miles with electrical issues, zz fab manifold that leaks like crazy, injectors that are very dirty, but hey thats a "stock" motor for ya, lol.

Looking forward to getting the tuning dialed in and boost leaks fixed, also injectors replaced when the wallet recovers this summer.

Oh and Brad :bow::bow: thanks for everything, the phone calls on the weekends, my basket case truck i dropped off to ya, and the great work.

for what ever reason you have to click on each one to open a photobucket page, dont know how to fix it.

So a short block 6.7 is a easy swap if you use the 5.9 head and other parts you just get a 6.7 any downside to using the 6.7? weaknesses or things to be fixed? Are the Rods the same as a 5.9?

well rod angle on the 6.7 is a concern in higher hp builds, so that where the carrillos come into play. The rods are the same rom the 6.7 to the 5.9. When running the 5.9 head you need to drill the steam holes into the head. The side draft intake take the stock canister filter out of play so all new return lines and feed lines need to be fabbed, as well as some bending of the back return line AND need to weld on a lifting eye to the manifold to facilitate installing the head with a lift.

As far as weakness goes, only time will tell where it is, i plan to spray the motor once its all dialed in and would like to see well over 1000 on spray and about 1000hp on fuel only.

i called greg at zz fab and all issues have been fixed, they changed the design of the mounting bosses to a full plate. he also offered to send me out a new manifold but the lead time was almost 5 weeks and i have have 1/8" npt bungs welded into my manifold.

Kinda hard to see but here is where it is leaking on top. under the rail.

Figured out the pics but now cant edit my earlier posts,

What is the spray angle on the marine pistons? I am in the middle of the same type build and I was going to use 03-04 injectors since they are really close on the angle. Also can you elaborate more on drilling the steam holes in the head what I have been told so far they told me I didn't have to but you aren't talking about doing it, you have done it. Your info is quite a bit more reliable than some others. Thank you for any info on this.

^^^
I'm wondering about the steam holes also. Seem like I read on another 6.7 thread here if you use a 6.7 head gasket you don't need to dril steam holes.

Dont remember the spray angle on the pistons, beleive they are the same just dont have the emmisions deal cut into the bowl. I also used 03-04 injectors.

No clue on my details on the steam holes, brad sent it to the machine shop and the drilled away. I figure the 6.7 had them for a reason so why not put them back. And you have to use a 6.7 head gasket, bore is too small on the 5.9 and piston will make contact with hg.

Wunderwood, if i could edit the posts again i can fix them.

Thanks for the compliments.

No can do, there is a set time limit after you post where you can edit, sorry

'03-04 cone angle is 143°
'04.5-07 cone angle is 124°
Automotive 6.7L cone angle is 146°
Industrial 6.7L cone angle is 128°

Who's injectors are you running?Curious cause you say they are"dirty".

The bowls looked identical to the factory bowls so i am assuming the marine piston and reg piston are the same.
the injectors are cpp.
