okay, oil fiLLer not fiLTer, sorry, my bad. i have a buddy with a mechanics camera on the end of a flex deal with a screen ill try to bring that along too and see what i can see with it. thanks thats a good idea.

im going to do some more research on the transfercase pump rub, is there any other problems with the t case, or anyhting else you can give me the heads up on?

thanks otis

pump rub is the killer issue. but...as long as you catch it before it ruins the case, you can fix it permanently with an $100 kit from merchant.

Seems a little high for the miles and in work truck trim, my no brother good in law bought a 2004 GMC LTZ with 160K on it for 15,500 a few months ago.

They didn't make LTZs in 04, Nor did they ever make a GMC LTZ. And an 04 could be an LB7 or an LLY, making it considerably less valueable than an 06.

These ZF6 trucks usually bring a premium.

thank you josh, the 10th didget is a 6, and with what you described yo look for, this looks to be a lbz, yes?

The 8th digit is the engine code. 2 for LLY, D for LBZ. Like stated, 06 M.Y. LLYs aren't really LLYs. You should find a 2, I'm almost certain there was never a true ZF6/LBZ. I.E., all 06 ZF6 trucks are gen 3 LLYs.

If you don't buy the truck, please disclose the location.

The 06 LLY's are usually a pretty good buy because most dealers don't know they are really an LBZ engine with a little different tune. I don't know for sure in your area, but that truck would probably go for around 15K around here because of all the farming and ranching. You about can't break a T-case and the rub kit is an easy fix. We have raced dmax's for 5 years putting serious HP to the ground on the drag strip in 4x4 and never hurt one.

looking up pump rub, i have figured out where to look for the wear holes on the rear of the t case housing, and if i end up getting the truck ill be doing the merchant auto upgrade when the tranny comes out for inspection/clutch replacement

8th digit is a 2, thank you for that info. if i decide against the truck, i will be giving a detailed description as to why i made the decision, and yes i will give up the info and location of the truck for anyone else that might be interested.

thanks to all that have helped so far, and please keep the information coming, otis

That truck looks pretty clean, no goose neck hitch and not much damage to the bed. As I said, it wouldn't last an hour on a lot around here. It's biggest drawback is it a manual transmission and a ***** to turn around in any of these new fancy parking lots with all the landscaping. It takes a country mile to turn it around.

Thats exactly how I harpooned the loaded 06 CCSB I had at a local wholesale auction. Used car dealers are so ignorant when it comes to diesel trucks that it is UNREAL.

I would drive it, I wouldn't be surprised if the noise while shifting is the clutch. The stock Dual mass flywheels in these things are absolutely awful.

the dealer says its a lbz on there website, so i might be able to use that aginst them when negoiting with them on price.

thats what im hoping, but im not going to buy it assuming thats the problem. i plan on assuming the worst and negotiating from there. either way the tranny will be coming out to do the clutch, and i will be inpecting the tranny throughly, along with doing the pump rub kit.

Haha, not all of them. Most new car stores are clueless about anything but Impalas and cobalts, etc. though, you're right on that one.

Most of em are, even some of the self proclaimed diesel specialists. My buddy drove 2 1/2 hours to a used car lot to look at an LLY dually with a friend of his. They get there on a saturday morning, truck was stone cold and the upper radiator hose was stiff as a boars cock. This used car guy insisted it wasn't headgaskets. They leave without even test driving the truck. A few days go by and this salesman actually calls the guy and says he did some research on the internet and it turns out if the hose isn't hard that means the hardgaskets are bad.

Going to look at the truck in the morning, just wanted to bump up the thread in case anyone has something else to add. I also wanted to thank everyone that has replied for all the helpful information, I'll be checking in tomorrow evening to let anybody interested know the status of the truck.

Thanks again, Otis.
