If $ is tight just fix rear seal.. no reason to go nuts tearing truck apart in middle of winter on tight budget due to a uncracked 53 engine block.. its a waste of $. same with electric waterpump.. they are for pull / drag only trucks and a lot of $.
Make sure its the rear seal.. rare for them to "just go out all of a sudden .. normally they wear slow and leak slow. Often the leak is a valve cover or cam plug if its a bad leak.
Work smart and save your $. My advice.
Thanks,
Deo
