looking to do another conversion but this time with the 68rfe. mainly cause i like the gear ratios for my project and i have to keep the starter on the driverside of the vehicle. does anyone know of someone who has made the 68rfe work in a stand alone app? ive called suncoast and the guy i talked to said nothing in the works, though ive heard differently. also pcs had nothing. please, any help

In my opinion I wouldn't waste any money on a 68rfe unless you're staying really close to stock power. Starters are on the drivers side with a 48re also.

yeah power wise it'd be behind a 4bt so less power than the 6. Thats a big reason I want the lower first gear. The 1st gear in the re/rh sucks with a 4bt IMO.

I agree, I love the shift pattern and ratios of the 68RFE. Just be nice if it could handle the HP of the 47/48.

Or I guess I could see if I can squeeze an allison 1000 in there. Anyone know the length of the 1000 4x4? Cant find the info anywhere on the net. thanks

The 68RFE will work in standalone mode with the TCM only (as in not plugged into the ECM) as long as you use a TCM from an 07.5-09 pickup.

We've tried using a PCS valvebody with the 68... way too much **** going on with the 68 to operate correctly with the PCS. Shift timing is critical and as clutches wear, shift timing changes and the PCS doesnt have the ability to learn to adapt the shift timing.. long story short.. it can be used in standalone with its own TCM, currently only Dave @ B&G chrysler can tune the TCM's (68rfe "overdrive" software = B&G). I'm currently working with EFI on the beta stuff to get 68RFE tuning out there... but, it won't be this week, thats for sure.

Ryan, when you say you're working on EFI beta stuff for RFE tuning do you mean on trucks that came with the 6.7 and RFE to begin with?

I talked to B&G about programming the TCM. He informed me in stand alone it would also need TPS and possibly RPM signals which go thru the ecm to work right.

Where you able to by-pass that somehow?

the 4r100 has the starter on the passenger side, and in my 70 bronco that would mean notching the frame rails, totally re-doing that side motor mounts and changing my twins configuration. I currently run the 47rh.
