Did it kill your charger too? Mind posting some pictures when you get a chance. Wonder what was the root cause? The liner?

Got hot is my guess... Or they lost a piston and swapped something in it......

haven't pulled the turbine housing off yet.. but looks in the exhaust discharge side nothing obviously and spins freely with no noise....

Pulling piston/liner tomorrow.. got distracted chasing part numbers...

Like to put marine pistons in it...
Only thing I can really find is CPLs
450hp 6cta marine Is 8089
500-600 QSC8.3 marine is 0906

just found CPL listing
piston is 4019886 kit 4025366 for cpl 8089

According to the ESN number I "supposed to have" piston cooling jets.. 12 of them.. this block has none of them....

according to Genuine Cummins Parts
for my ESN/CPL # 44843226/1262 the block that is supposed to be is 3929524, block that sits in the frame rails.... 3923275...
injection pump is supposed to be 3929524

ESN 44843226

CPL 1262

according to cummins….

piston is 3917707

liner is 3919937 thick and long version

liner piston kit is 3802407K

rebuild kit is 4955179

3802407 is 3802460(P)/3919937(L)

3802406 is 3917707(p) /3919937(L)

piston 3926961 also keeps showing up in kits

also have seen places state the short thick liners replaced the long thick liners???

and found mahle after market clevitte HD parts.. 10 didfferent piston 16 if you count two of them have 4 different "grades"

why did the anvil have to break in the sandbox ?!?! :bang

40 different part numbers for the same part or having 10 different injectors for the same engine is the Cummins way.

soo much fun course trying to find a block..need to know all the numbers so you can search the numbers...

3929605 is build block
with active numbers for block
3968249
3934902
3928965

been able to google these..
3928963
3934906
3971411

Pulled #4 liner.. found piston cooling jets... Lots of scale on the liner, coolant was mostly water out if the donor Truck..
Liner is the 3919937 for documentation..

Any suggestions on how to get scale out/off the walls on the inside without hot tanking?

Maybe a die grinder with a small wire wheel, like a 1/4" air grinder?

kinda hard to do that inside the coolant passages of the block...

actually took a slag chisel to #4 liner to chip the scale off hoping I could find a number... ended up just measuring it...

used a 20cc medicine syringe… not exactly top end accurate... but gets me an in-field ball park volume.. current piston bowl volume of ~58cc, add ~10cc for clearance in the head/dead space etc for total of 68cc
503/6=84ci
~84ci per cylinder
1ci=16.39cc
68cc=4.14ci
84/4.14=20.28:1 CR

explains why it started soo well in 10* temps....

How much are you planning to drop the cr?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

ideally 17:1 would be nice
marine runs 15.3:1 which might have some cold weather starting isusse nothing a block heater or intake grid heater couldn't solve

So are you lowering the c.r.? Maybe a wider bowl piston available? I would think it would only kill mileage a little.
