The first time I adjusted my valves. It was obvious the previous owner had the valves adjusted before, because the slot for the rocker arm adjusting screw was reamed out like the guy busted his screwdriver off before he figured out he had to loosen the locknut first. So I replaced them all with cummins part number 3900706 . Instead of the slot for a screwdriver these take a Allen wrench. I suspect there for a 24 valve. Just thought I would share this in case a gorilla adjusted your valves.

Did you measure the ball on the end of the adjuster? 24v are bigger than 12v, might not be seating properly in the pushrod.

When I ordered them it crossed over to this number. I don't think you can get the slotted adjusters . It changes over to this part number.

I have a 12v and mine are 5mm Allen... Just an fyi. However I have a recon built in 01 with updated parts such as a timing case that is kdp-proof, and now I'm guessing this rocker arm deal.
