Blown oil cooler?

How common is it for the oil coolers to go on these engines? Mine went, coolant take is full of nice brown Grease now!!! My good luck continues
 
I know of several that went, but those were in trucks that I thought were abused pretty bad. How bad was yours corroded when you had it apart?
 
any good tricks to flushiing that awesome slimy brown grease out of the coolant system??? been running water and a gentle degreaser threw it but not gaining alot of ground yet..
 
I've always heard Dawn dish soap. Fill it full of water, put in some Dawn, let it warm up and cycle the thermostat, drain, repeat.
