blue point dial indicator not moving when turning engine

just bought an sp500 kit and tried to advance my timing but even with everything completely seated in the dv hole and dial indicator adapter, the dial indicator wont move at all. I noticed the bottom of the dial indicator doesn't even come down all the way through the adapter. ive tried extending the bottom as much as possible and it still wouldn't move while rotating the engine. im doing everything exact to the timing in 40 min videos and still nothing. I just spend 220 dollars on a tool that doesn't work

if you take the tool out and push it by hand does it move? also my blue point kit has a extion piece you have to put on did you maybe miss that piece?

yes I had overlooked that extensions existence and ended up finding it in my tool cart. im not sure where it was in the box lol but I found it. too bad it was late at night after I got all cleaned up. oh well back at it today
