Blue smoke observations...Ideas?

i mentioned a few times a have set and rechecked via pin timing and a degree wheel on the crank a few times.

i know pin timing isnt exactly 100% accurate as spill port, however as i also mentioned before, when i was near 30 deg, and i laid into the fuel at lower engine speeds there would be severe fuel knock and the engine was more difficult to cold start. pulling almost 15 deg out of it and starts like stock, and putting it to 12.5 deg as per the info plate it starts and sounds good. still has crispt throttle response adn good mileage.

still dont see how retarded static timing would cause intermittent no load stumble when revving it.

Im done babbling for today untill i do some tests on the weekend.

You haven't said any of this about the degree wheel until now. Good luck with your truck bud...

well, i was going to crack each line to see if i can isolate this morning, but it was +10C outside, so does not really smoke at these temps..going to be very warm all week...

the solution to my smoking problem is to move to the south from MI

Still installing pressure gauge though.

If it goes away when it warms up outside, you don't have a problem, you have an old 12v....

With that, I'm out. Best of luck to you.

installed the FP gaauge this week, almost 20 at idle and 25-28 at 2000 or so RPM. so that is good.

Right now I am chasing a coolant leak from the underside of the tstat housing.
Very hard to tell if its between HG or the actual tstat housing.
took it apart, looked ok, put it back together, ran it, still leaked. Realized i left the thin part out. Non cummins gaskets used.

Picked up some cummins gaskets, will take apart, clean it all again, reassemble, and recheck. If its still leaking, then possibly headgasket?

Will pick up a coolant tester, take it to 15-20 psi and see if it can start weeping to see exactly the source.
Hopefully OEM gaskets are the cure..

Thats plenty of fuel pressure, any changes you make there are barking up the wrong tree. I know guys are running like 50psi and it may show gains on a strung out small pump at high rpms. Not needed for your set up. I think a new set of injectors or sending yours off for testing would solve your issue. I didn't read this all but is it only when its real cold it hazes?
