Hey guys, im looking at getting a 181/210 or 188/220 cam, and was wondering if i had to run the heavy #165 valve springs with an aftermarket cam, or could i get away with running #60 springs? Maybe upgrade to the 165's later down the road?

Thx guys

I have been told the 60# springs are not much heavier than the stock springs and are the same tension at certain spring heights. I cannot recall the exact figures, but I would invest in a set of proper springs for the cam you decide on.

ask your cam guy.. thats who has the answers your after..

60# is fine if you're not going over 4k rpm and making crazy power. And I think 60# springs are like 120# seat.

I've run them with stock cam and my current 181, with no issues.

My 60lb were 145 on the seat pressure, I've run that setup for many years, like 9 but as mentioned i don't twist it past 4K.

good info for seat pressure. check out nose pressure tho on a #60 spring. same as stock....good for extra duration over 3600rpm and valve loft LOL

I dont plan on spinning over 4k, thats why i asked. Thx guys..... Helped me out there. I think im gonna try to get by with 60s. Should i do all 12 springs? Ive heard that you only need the 60s on the exh side????

Put them on intake and exhaust, if you are going to do it. They recommend exhaust side only when installing an exhaust brake, which is what the 60# springs were developed for.

Straight from Zach when I asked. Don't spin it past 4k. He recommended new springs for the 181 but the 60lbs will work.
