Looking for a replacement turbo for our old cat 3406b in a 1989 pete 377. Or just a parts turbo. The compressor wheel has some pretty good nicks in it and I do not feel comfortable with it. Anyone have anything laying around?

The b model ran more variations of the TV series Garretts than most realize. Some had a carbon seal, some had a thrust built into the backing plate, others had a T45 style thrust that bolts into the bearing housing similar to a GTA42. Turbine wheels and compressor wheels vary just as much. Have a part number? I have a pile of B model Garretts.

Why even chance a used one?

A new BW 199114 can be had for less than a grand.

This is true.

The compressor wheels are a slip fit on those as well. The shaft tapers to .015" over IIRC close to the bearing portion of the shaft. They can be a real bich to get the wheel off.

Not a big fan of the factory B model stuff. Which is understandable given it is an antique design.

7W9568 is the part number

The turbo only has 95000 miles on it.

I have been looking for bw turbos. I get a bunch of different part numbers that equal turbos for 1200 to 1800. If you could give me a link to the part number you mentioned, that would be great.

The only 7W9568 or crosses I have here have trashed wheels. The 178063 is the new borg number that replaces it. 451190-0002 is the Garrett CHRA # for your stocker. It is a UTV78 model.

The early stuff is horrible for turbos.

Small turbines with huge housings, 3/8" shafts unless it was an early schwitzer.

Isnt that 178063 the new number for the 199119?

It is indeed. 178131 is the 199114 Replacement. Depends on the guy and the situation on what we sell. In this case he has the UTV78 with the big azz exhaust wheel and housing. Those are usually found on the genset applications. Some even have the goofy piston ring exhaust outlet found on the gensets.

The 199114 will drive better I must admit. The 199119 closely matches the UTV78 applications to keep it on the safe side for us. A lot of B model guys have played with their pumps (shocking I know LOL )to compensate for the bigg hot side on their stocker so we have to be careful what we suggest.

OP the 199114 (178131) is a great turbo for you as suggested. I strongly advise against the old stock Garrett stuff.

OP:

TV thrust on top. S400 on bottom. This is some insight on the stocker vs the aftermarket.

I know quite a few that have tried the 119, but the 1.72 exhaust housing is just too big, the 114 is the same turbo just has a 1.42.

I have a 3406b takeoff turbo,ran fine, looks fine....

$250 shipped it's yours

I removed to put an s480 on it with a 1.58 a/r....

Throwing this here, I know nothing about cat engines. Says this one is for a c15 acert. I am going to go look at it first before I think about buying.

We bought this Truck to pull one of our drills around (roughly 25000 pounds drill and trailer) and mount mud mixing system on bed. we bought the truck in California and I drove it back to south dakota. The truck has not seen the road in 5 years. Besides going through numerous fuel filters and having to plug the afc the truck ran awesome the whole trip. I noticed the wheel was nicked up in Utah when I stopped at a shop cause the truck lost power (afc). Ended up driving the truck the rest of the way home with no problems. The compressor wheel is all that worries me about the truck.

Picked this up today. Only things on the tag are a serial number and batch number. Some numbers written on the inside of the compressor housing and think a date stamped on the outside.
Serial number 261198
Batch number 20140512
Written in marker on the inside of compressor housing jl2-do60-401 b/61
Stamped on the outside of the housing. 7 14
