cutting down to a short bed

so when cutting the 16" out, your basiclly moving the second bed support to the where the first support is? i was going to measure 16" from just in front (on the cab side) back 16" and cut that section out. in the all the pictures i'ver seen when you cut and move the frame forward that puts the second bed mount in place of the one you took out. i'm i getting this right?
 
On a long box there is 3 pairs of bed mounts and you cut the front one out with the 16". When you do this the second set of bed mounts move into the front position. You shouldn't have to make or replace any bed mounting points.
 
gotcha, so do i start the measurement right up against the bed mount. im afraid that when i weld it back up the bed will be too close or too far away from the cab.
 
I didn't have a picture of the side with the bed mount still on it but you can see where we ground it off. Hopefully the pictures will explain it better than my words did.
