front pump splines, 47RH

any one have an idea why the splines for the front pump look all chewed up on the first picture? never seen such before...

They look just fine (normal) to me. The stator splines into a stationary part of the torque converter and both the stator and torque converter component are stationary.
 
ok! thanks, I figured the transmission would not make line pressure if it was not engaging the splines, but I was not sure if the area aft of the splines needs to be a certain dimension for any reason. must have built this one on a friday.
 
it is pretty bad looking, compare the finish of the tops of the splines from 1st to 2nd picture, and the area behind the splines.

I bet the max/min height difference of the peak of the splines are ~15 thousands in places...
