Fuel gauge prob/questions

So I did a search on the board and couldn't find a answer so I am posting this. I have a 01 and the fuel gauge is broken. I need to fix the sending unit but want to add a aftermarket pump and could only find the sending unit with the tank lift pump. Any chance I can just get the sending unit? Also will the in tank lp work as my draw straw for an aftermarket pump? Thanks.
 
My concern is if I replace the sending unit can I still use the factory lift pump as a draw straw when I put on a fass or similar unit? Does anyone know that answer?
 
Just replace the rheostat part as shown in my link. That's it! No need to replace the whole basket.

While you have it out you can install a draw straw or simular fuel pickup device.
 
i use the stk in tank ass w/o the fuel pump to run my holleys and the raptor..no issues..airdog or someone makes an adaptor to connect hose to the intank p/u if ya need one
