I have had nothing but bad luck with an nv4500 holding up. I'm curious about the strength of the g56. I cam along a steal of a deal on one, with the lazar smith case brace, and supposably it has the built lazar smith gears and shafts. How are these trans holding up? Guys seem to be doing alright with them on the streets but how well do they hold up sled pulling?

Also any issues I will have with putting one in a 2nd gen? It's about 6" longer than the nv so drive shafts will need some work and some sort of adaptor fabed up for the rear trans mount

The g56 is a good trans, I never had any trouble with mine but it won't hold a candle to the nv4500 as far as taking abuse.

What kind of power are you making? What gear do you pull in? The 4500 should hold up beyond what the g56 will, but it like any other will fail when put on the track for long enough. We ran a truck last year with a g56 through about 15-20 hooks in second gear 4 hi and held up just fine, truck was around 700-750 hp

Gear your truck to pull in 4th lo with the nv45, you'll never have an issue again. G56 is a great Trans but in the long run won't take the abuse.

I pull 2nd hi with the nv. 4.10 gears. I'm prolly 700-750 hp it's really a street truck not a pulling truck

I never pulled when i had a g56 but i managed to break teeth off 4th gear and 6th. I also broke the casing but i was around 800hp at the time.

blackcoal, luck has nothing to with breaking transmission, pulling in high side of the transfer case!
Pulling in the hi side is for dust tracks only, figure out a combo that will work in the low side and the transmission will last must longer.

So re gearing to be able to run 4 low with the nv seems about my best option. What's direct drive in the g56? Has anyone put big power through them in direct? Like 2.6 guys?

Dont waste your time trying to get the G56 to hold long term in sled pulling. NV4500 in 4th gear 4 low is the best option bar none. Keep the trans in 4th and you'll be fine.
