So I figured I would start a build thread on this even though the build started some time ago. Slow progression but figured some might enjoy seeing the changes.
I bought this truck about 6 years ago when I still worked offshore. I used it for driving back and forth to LA. and hauling the race truck. It was a 04.5 reg cab 2wd with a NV5600. The guy had put a 6" lift on it and it had little over 310k on the odometer and picked up for a fairly good price. This I dubbed the Hillbilly Deluxe....
First things first I quickly took the sawzall to the exhaust cutting the trash can tip off. The Tow mirrors had been epoxied in the flipped out position. I drove the truck for a couple years till I blew the motor in my PS truck at world finals. In January I decided to just strip the PS truck and sell it as a roller. I then decided I wanted to build a street able truck I could race with out beating on my DD. The goal was build the truck up to run in the 11.90 Super Diesel class in April.
We ripped off the front pumper, lift kit, 35" tires and the NV5600. Installed a set of compounds, head studs, valve springs, 150hp injectors and an AirDog 200. We also slapped in the ATS built 47RE and 5 star with PCS standalone and TCS A100 input shaft I also installed the D200 data logger.
Truck ran well with little to no testing running 12.3 - 12.4 with some trans tuning issues.
We ran this last April and the truck came out swinging running 11.9s on 4 qualifying pass's as I decided to double class between SM and SD just working the brakes in SM on a 12.0 dial. Day ended quicker than I had hoped due to a stuck WG. I decided it was time to go through the old 330k plus stock bottom end as i had been planning to build a new motor anyways. The old setup was very rough looking as it was all quick fab up and never did any finishing work. Now I figure it is time to clean things up and actually add some fuel for the future when I get to doing the chassis mods to run faster than 11.50.
How it sat this last April.
The tear down..
I was pretty surprised to see the condition of the cylinders after 330k miles.
I hope to add updates in the weeks to come of the rebuild.
