Loose & over-protruded piston

Update: I pulled the pan & discovered both bolts on #5 have came loose, BUT didn’t fell off, luckily.

-Bearing halves did stacked on each other’s.
-One rod bolt got a little bent and other one’s thread galled (the inner portion that don't thread into cap)
-areas where rod’s cap mates are mushroomed a little
-crankshaft #5 journal surprisingly have very little damage, considering.
-obviously trashed bearings themselves.

I am thinking at least polish scratches out a little on journal, another piston & rod, new bearings, transfer piston rings to it, and re-torque all 6 rods to be sure I didn’t miss any of them this time. :nail:

Anyone have a good 180hp STD piston with Brazil rod laying around to sell to me?

Exactly what I expected you to find.

Thanks for the update.

When Ive built engines in the past, this has always been my fear. Paranoia made me double and triple check my work as I went. As Bateman said, it couldve been a whole lot worse. Hope you get it up and running soon.

Check the valves on that cylinder, could be bent.
Lucky you didn't damage the crank.

I’m surprised it wasn’t damaged that much.

Valves are fine as they are recessed. The contact mark on top of piston is actually from the head itself, not valve impressions.
