low rail psi truck dead

yesterday i ran it pretty hard up a hill and it went into limp mode but didnt die. set a low rail psi code- cleared it with scantool and was fine until today- driving on level ground, it died. checked codes llow rail psi again. let it set for about 15 min and tried to crank- no luck. think its the relief valve but its only got 145,000 on it and bone stock, even though its a 4500 and pretty heavy
 
I just replaced a pump on a truck with similar miles and problem. If it will not make enough pressure to start and idle I doubt it is just a relief valve. What is you rail pressure while cranking?
 
pulled out pres. relief and looked for signs of trash. couldnt see anything, put back in drained filter, not much junk put new filter on filled with atf and it started?? drove it for 5miles never missed a beat. went from an old 3910 to 3960 filter (both napa)
