I have a set of mahle pistons and rings. I have mixed up the rings and I dont remember which ones are the top and second ring. I think the black rings are the second and the silver are the top. Am I correct???

Thanks
Adam

I believe that is right but it has been 6+ months since I've seen them.

That's how the set of mahle rings I just put in a SBF were.

I've never rebuilt a diesel motor yet (haven't had a need to), but all the rings I've used for gas motors have had a mark on them to indicate which way was up. In addition to that mark the top ring has a chamfer on the inside radius that goes up, the second ring has a chamfer on the inside radius that goes down.

Make sense?

I don't know if any of this is even relevant to the question at hand, but it is what I learned after having someone spill the contents of the ring box on the first rebuild I did. Haven't forgot it since.
