ok guys my 2002 beetle is throwing the 17849 code. (egr short to ground) My car is deleted with a race pipe and has kerma tuning. I have had them send me new tunes to try and take care of the code but its still there. what could be causing this code? the car idles rough and has a slight lope but has plenty of power and runs smooth while going down the road.
 
Check TDIClub for hammer mod. I bet you just need to raise the IQ to smooth out the idle. See if anyone around you has vagcom and adjust it between 3-4. EGR code is no big deal, more of an annoyance than anything.
 
Super old thread, but did you pull the EGR solenoid? I did and **** canned it, which apparently isn't the way to do it. From what I understand, it's off and unhooked, but the ECU isn't happy if it isn't there.
