Hey Jeff, if I could get a price on a VB for my 48re, I'd appreciate it.
Mods on my trans are as follows:
Triple disk torque converter- 15 blade, maybe 200 rpm under stock stall (maybe less), Sonnax billet input shaft, billet 4 ring intermediate servo, sonnax reverse servo, 4 ring accumulator piston, red eagle forward clutches (the rest still look new), Transgo shift kit, and GM gov solenoid. My Trans has never given me any problems, except for late shifts 2nd to 3rd (with decreased torque management, its very annoying). But, the TC engages pretty smooth except for higher programming (shudders just a tiny bit upon lock up).
As I increase the power in this truck, the more I worry about getting the valve body just right. I haven't raced the truck yet, but I might in the spring. And I don't tow much if anything. Thinking maybe your race valve body might just do the trick....
