This is a Nexus 7 tablet install I did some time back in my truck. Pretty sweet.

Sweet ass!
I had been following some of these on DIYMA and wondered why it wasn't any more popular than it is .

Does it run a modded ROM for start times and key on input?
What are you using for the rest of your setup? I was working up to putting a tab in my Dodge and then sold the truck.

On Edit -
I'm an idiot. You answered the questions in the video. I just couldn't watch it because of a firewall.

Is the magnetic securing inherent to the Nexus? I would be scared to just hit any tablet with a set of magnets

Using an OEM ROM but rooted. Thats works great so no need to change it. Using Tasker and a gesture app to automate everything

There is a link to a Youtube video in that first post that covers that.

Kicker components in the doors. Kicker CVR 2ohm DVC subs in a Foxbox under the seat. Phoenix Gold 8v preamp Audiobahn 400 watt amp for the doors. Audiobahn Class D mono for the subs

I used to have a full custom computer in the truck with a 10" touch screen but this is MUCH more simple and less bulky

Very cool! What keeps it in place?

Custom magnetic mount

There are some more pics over on my Facebook

You know what though, by the time you look at buying a new head unit or good used one, getting a custom dash piece made, youre right at the same for getting a new or used tablet and custom pash piece made.

So if you can get more uses out of a tablet over a head unit and can take it with you and use it where ever you go, why wouldnt you?

Now I know guys like SoundMan charge A LOT for tablet installs and so do other shops like Sonix and such. But I know a guy that does them for really low

I'm a DIY guy. I was reading through DIYMA's Computer forum and arrived at the same place you did. It's far more functional IMO.
Couple that with interface accessories and it's a no Brainer.

I supposed the Nexus has the magnets so that the wireless charging aligns correctly, and supports multiple bluetooth connections.
Tethering + accessory connection was something I saw as a problem but haven't followed up on.

Enjoy looking at your products and video's. I have twin 160 Gig iPod classics (no BT) that hold my music. Is there a way to connect those to an iPad mini in my dash?

I really like the magnetic place holder among other tricks you come up with. When I figure out which way I want to go I would like to buy some product from you. Living out in the sticks, I cannot rely upon "cloud music".

Only time i ever listen to radio is in the shop. In the truck or on my bike, I always do MP3s.

If your iPod cant stream then the only other way would be to do 3.5mm (earphone) out to either to an AUX input on your head unit or 3.5mm to RCA to your pre-amp or amps
