Does the whole t-case have to come apart to swap out input shafts.

yep. and buy a new snap ring (the big one) that goes inside the speedo housing. more than likely you will ruin it removing it!

Its a simple teardown, just pay attention and like lews930 said get a new snap ring. And dont lose or break the shifter fork plastic guides.
