Yes I know this is not the "proper" way to fix it, but I don't care.

Should I use ER70s rod or a 309L rod for welding the nut on? Not sure what either the nut or the shaft is made out of. I am guessing the shaft is steel, not sure about the nut.

I was thinking two stitches about .75" long, on opposite sides from each other.

Concentrate the heat more on the nut than the shaft or you will end up with a broken shaft. I just use my MIG welder with the heat turned up.

I sold my mig a few months back, so tig it is. I will do my best to keep the HAZ on the shaft to the minimum.

Well now that all the votes are in... :kick: ER70S I guess it is.

Well it is welded. It was awkward, and I am well out of practice, so it was ugly, and I rushed it. Probably will cause me to break the shaft... Oh well, I guess then it will be time for an upgrade. :nail:

Should have called me man, on questionable material 309l could have been a better bet, also .75" stitches are long, .25" stitches would likely have been better.
