NV4500 Profab Kit Durability

On a slightly different note...can you remove gears from an NV4500 that you aren't going to need? I've heard of removing 5th gear, but not sure what all is actually taken out or how much weight it saves.
 
1.0, 1.04, 1.08 is all they make and they have not been interested in making any other ratios. I cant even imagine loading my truck on a trailer in 1.08 or even driving it in the pits. Some organizations have rules on tow vehicles but they are not always inforced.
