P-pumped 466 in a 1460 Combine

Hey guys. My uncle has a 466 out of a truck that he rebuilt as a back up engine for his 1460 combine. The engine was an engine out if an international truck with a pull cable shut off. He put an electronic shutoff solenoid on it with 3 wires, a black, white and a red wire. He can get the engine to start, run and shut off. However the solenoid gets very very hot. It started to melt the boot on the solenoid.

Any help with this would be great!

If it's like the dodge solenoid there should be a pull,hold and ground wire. The hold wire will be thinner gauge wire it should be hot in the run position. The pull wire should be hot in the crank position. If you leave power on the pull wire it will get very hot . Sorry don't remember the color code.
 
So then there needs to be a second power source to the solenoid through the key in the run position to the hold wire. Does the voltage on the hold position need to knocked down?
 
The hold wire just needs 12 volts in the run position. The pull wire on the solenoid draws about 60 amps it should only have power when the starter is engaged that is we're the excessive heat is coming from.
