I finally got my dakota out of the barn. It's been sitting and collecting dust for the last 2 yrs. I was going to build another truck but this is the one that it started it all for me. So here we are. Hopefully be making some passes this coming yr. Not sure what class I'll run it. Maybe by next year I'll be fast enough and legal to run in Pro Street.

Best time I ran with is before I parked it was 7.17 in the 1/8th with a single disc converter.

Not had much time to work on until this past 2 weeks.

The truck is getting converted to a 4x4, using a Dana 60 going to get it narrowed. 4 Link front and back.

What the truck looked like before I parked it.

I moved the motor back another 4" than it was before. You can also see where I had to modify the front rails to get all the 2wd components out of the way

The truck will not sit as low as before with the addition of the front axle.

Here is the old back 1/2 rails I built, that I had NO idea what I was doing. The frame is raised in this picture, 4 link geometry was not out of wack that bad.
I walked into the shop one morning it looked like this. I wanted something new(lighter and look better) and when I walked out that evening- isnt much.

I've been working on the back 1/2 and working on the cage trying to get the chassis finished.

Most recent pictures I have.

More updates to come hopefully by next Monday.

That back half gives me a chubby....

What is your reasoning for going to a 4wd? Just curious.

x2. Wondering the same thing. Go with a light weight rearend and stick with a 2wd. Its your cat though. You can skin it the way you like. either way you are doing amazing work:bow: On the other hand being 4wd would be a dirt drag racing machine :D

Cummins12Club, ecc_33 nailed it.. Main reason for the 4x4 is the dirt drags. It seems like I'm going against the flow as everyone else is going to 2wd.

As for weight- I don't think I'll have much to worry about, once all said and done I'm thinking I'll be adding weight to make weight for Pro-street

And if the 4x4 doesn't work out, it shouldn't be too difficult to switch back to 2wd

I personally like 4wd, I was just asking because 2wd seems to be the new trend.

I like 2wd's myself but I want something that will potentially do in the dirt drags. Who knows may build a hitch for it and pull a sled (most likely not but sounded cool).

The last week has been fairly busy working on the truck. Got the cage/back half about 90% finished, need to add a few gussets and do a little more welding. Almost have the motor and trans mounted, gotta finish up driver side motor mount.

Front cross member and driver side motor mount Im going to add a support bar to it so it'll be more rigid

Boxed in the rear portion of the frame, ignore the weld

I built the door bars to go around the door handle and keep the hip/ leg room open

Also got the front axle out of the donor, cut off all the brackets and cleaned up and put it under the truck.

I'm still up in the air about narrowing it, with the 4 link mounted I will be able to narrow it about 3.5-4" on each side.

Alright guys and gals throw some color suggestions at me. I'm thinking the easiest will be all black. What would yall do to it?
The wheels are still up in the air. Black wheel with a machined lip? I like the Ion 171 16x10 wrapped in a mickey thompson et street radial II 295/50R16. I think For this size of a truck 16's will look good, that and the drag radials are cheaper than 17's and 18's.
