stainless lines cracking?

I know Cummins Cowboy had issues with his .120" stainless lines cracking, and he eventually went back to mild steel so I took his advice and put a couple more supports on my lines, I never saw and vibration at any RPM (obviously a no-load condition) but my #5 line (0.093" stainless) split right inside the collar where it meets the crossover tube, has anyone else had these issues?
 
Personally no, but I know of at least one guy around here that had a line crack there.

I have .093 lines installed since last November without any problems. They were a pain in the azz to setup though.
 
I have been through so many stainless lines both .120 and ..093, on three different trucks, that we took the one truck to schieds to let them try and figure it out. I am switching to .120 mild steel when schieds get them done.

Your is a auto. Ours are all manuals and i am beggining to think that the instant throttle pressure release might be the spike in pressure within the lines causing them to crack or break. I deal with Jeff in Effingham IL.
 
I've got .093 ss lines and I 've already had to get a new number 6. Now my 2 line is leaking bad at the pump. What a pain in the a$$ these things are.
 
Are the leaking because they aren't supported properly or??

That is why schied wanted to see bryces truck in person and they couldnt find anything wrong at all. Put .093 mild steel on and have not had a problem since. His is a ppumped 24v. He has had .084, .093, .120 lines Many different sets all stainless and the only ones that are holding are the mild steel.

My brothers truck is a 12v and he has replaced 4 .120 lines so its not narrowed down to the converted trucks.

My is a ppumped 24v with stainless .120 schied lines. All kits have had all the clamps that schied sends with them.
 
My .120's havent had a problem yet....even though I kinda bent one kinda bad......
 
there's not much more I can do to support mine, I may just say piss on it and order a new set of 0.084 mild steel lines from someone apparently Shied's is recommended?

only reason I've got stainless is I wanted the 0.093" can't seem to get ahold of the place that sold me these, he knows there is a problem, and now the phone isn't getting answered and I'm not getting any call-backs.
 
I have Schied's mile steel lines. No cracks, but I have had atleast one leak, possibly a second (haven't had any seat time in that truck since I got the new head on it). Theres pictures of the lines Garrett from puredieselpower sells, and I would look in that direction if I get new lines. Only thing I like about my schieds lines is I can remove the #1 line without having to remove anything else, makes timing adjustments much faster.
 
If you order the lines from Garrett (PDP) they are sold as Haisley's but they are bent by and come shipped from Schieds. I asked Garrett when I got mine, the tag said Schied, and I bought Haisley lines. Well apparently Schied makes them for Haisley too.
 
Interesting, they bent them differently than the ones I got two years ago. I wonder if their fitment has gotten any better?
 
talked to Scheids and they'll sell me a set of .093 lines in mild steel for a pretty good price, a little over half what I paid for my stainless lines.

I guess I'll just polish up these stainless lines and use them for wall decoration, sort of modern art.
 
I've also been considering getting another set of stainless lines and annealing them after they are bent, I've been wondering if maybe they are getting work-hardend from the bending process and when the ends are formed.
 
Are there any cons to mild steel lines? Other then not looking as pretty..
 
not that I've been able to tell, stainless is more expensive by $100 per set, I can tell you that.
 
I remember somebody had on their site that they didnt recomend mild steel for a street truck. No reason was given.

I went through a pair of #2 lines from schied. Fitment was horrible, they warrentied them. They also stated that the lines were supposed to be supported with more than the clamps they were supplied with. Also said that I was supposed to use the oem braces holding them too the engine.

Then in a very pleasent and proffesional tone I explained to them that the box only had lines in it. A phucking card saying that would have helped keep my truck from going down as my only means of transport.


I dont think Im welcome at the Terre Haute store any longer.
