starting problems

Just started happening the other day...i went to start the truck and i've been having to give it a little fuel to start so i did that but when i turned the key the starter whined like it was stressing to turn the engine over then all of a sudden it cranked it over and started my truck. Anyone know why i have to give it fuel to start it and why the starter is whining? (just replaced starter about 2 months ago)
