Superduty Dana 60 knuckle conversion

So my 99 Fummins has a dodge Dana 80 rear axle.Front is a Dana 60 with unit bearings and adapters from 8x170mm to 8x6.5 lug pattern.
I acquired a 95 ball joint Dana 60 set of knuckles.I already know the knuckles will swap. The superduty axle tie rods sit on top of the knuckle and OBS axle the tie rods sit on the bottom. My question is has anyone re-drilled and re-tapered the Knuckles to accept the new style tie rods ?
Or alternative All Heim Joints?
I am trying to keep it simple if I can reuse the superduty Tie rods. That way If i need replacing I can get them at any local parts store.

I definitely would not try to re-taper the knuckles.

Would it be possible to utilize the OBS steering components on the newer truck?

If you go the heim joint route, isn't there a high-steer conversion available?

You can get tapered inserts and drill knuckles out to straight hole.

I was going to talk to a machine shop if it was able to be done.
yes i have looked at the high steer setup as well

I didn't look for the 60 specificly. Just a quick search. I've seen these done a bunch on Jeeps. Pretty sure a options for a 60 is there too.

Seemed easier to weld spring buckets onto the axle I have.

Thanks for the link

I run the stock dana 60 on the dodge, but I have a heim setup on it and its not bad. I will be upgrading to the 95-98 ford knuckles and hubs at some point.
Last time I was in there replacing stuff I think I took down the heim sizes and part numbers. for reference if you go this route and build your own setup for the ford, this is what Thuren used on his:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/dodge/1483177-replacement-heims-thurenfab-steering.html

you can always get stronger heims from outfits like EMF or others. The load rating and reliability for the FK was ok for the money though.

Ruff stuff has a bunch of stuff to make steering setup easy if you have an imagination. IMO I would use TREs. They seem to do a lot better for steering than heims. I've had both and prefer the TREs.

I'll share my experiences:

I know two people who have run this guy's setup on their daily drivers with 35" or bigger tires, and not had an issue.
http://bulletproofsteering.com/

Then I have friends that do ulta4 stuff and they will not do a non-tapered setup unless they do double sheer because it'll eventually oval out the knuckle.

Then I have also talked to the guys at Crane/CrawlerTech (they used to work right next to us, now down the street) and they had only built one high steer setup that actually worked with a ball joint D60 knuckle (not including the ones they make from scratch). They made a bunch of plates, TIGed them all on one by one with dissimilar filler rod, and it worked okay. He said they eventually just built some knuckles for it though and it was a PITA.

My advice would be to toss the knuckles on, and buy something that's made for it like this: http://www.factorymoparparts.com/52122362af.html
And then modify the drag link if needed. That'll give you the best durability for daily driving and salt on roads and what not.

All excellent advice IMO.

I have thought about the Bulletproof steering setup but I am kinda Bias about the Heims wearing out.

I don't see how a dodge steering setup would help me? Maybe I am missing the picture here
