Swapping input shafts between a 47rh tcase and a 47re tcase

SCHMITTY

Not enough time
I bought a 1994 with a busted t case. The previous owner had a rear u joint go out and it tore up the tcase. I found a low mile dhd off a 47re. The input shafts are different lengths.

Bought the 170k mile , bone stock 94 for 500$ plus a 77 rusty dodge 1/2 ton I had. This 1994 has a couple wiring issues , interior is a little rough. Perfect candidate for a street/strip/company parts runner. Going with a benched 215 but can’t decide on the turbo yet. Probably 5x18s or 20s.

Looks like my truck haha little rougher maybe.

5x18’s and a 467 is what I’m looking at. Should be good for some 7.70 action

The 95 in my sig was pretty rough. Passenger side was primer , 1st gen wheels and hubcaps, traction bars . Kept up with some high 11 second cars on the highway. It was running 60 psi of the 71/76/.9 on stock head bolts and 19-20* of timing . Never got to try the 472 before I sold it

That’s what I’m talking about. 215 pump should make it even easier to make some good power.

Not recommending it but don’t some choose to hack saw the input to make it work? Might be a jeep thing and I’m misremembering ha

No the input on the re tcase is shorter. The splines engage but the rear main on the trans won’t seal.

I can't help on the t-case question but keep us updated on the truck build.

I will. Having a hard time deciding between a fun daily s300 like a 64 or 66 or going to straight to a 369 or 472 or 75. Going to have 215 almost maxed at the pump shop, 24* timing , dpc triple, sonnax input. Got the first gen rims and caps still. I plan on keeping the cam in the truck stock , 5ks in the pump. The 95 was pretty fun with 3.54s. The new truck has 4.10s

Wife’s 06 is up next for a Tranny build , then the 94. That will make Tranny build 23 and 24

You building the trans or paying?

I build them at my place for side work. Only 48s and older and I quit using the super servo a long time ago. I freshened up my old Tranny in June and sold it with my 95. My first couple builds I used the servo

If you put any "S400" single on it with a 12mm pump, it will be a turd.

That k31 seemed to work well. I guess it’s in between a 300 and 400. It was the version off a 60 series Detroit but had a s400 74mm turbine housing machined to fit the 76mm turbine wheel. 76 and 87 are quite different in size.

Maybe I’ll go 13mm

Awesome. I’m still intimidated but want to learn it something bad.
Jump in. Pick up an ATSG manual and read Will's thread. I wish I had learned 15 years ago and made some money building them for people.

You’re right. I will look into ordering that book.

Everyone has a different tolerance is what I always say. I’ve daily driven a 600hp 2 liter with a 66mm turbo haha not saying the s400 is the route you need to take but I probably have 10 threads saved on this forum where people loved the 467. I think all of them are fmvb and obviously not people who tow. Weekend warrior or just toys some of them.

Where you live and the type of roads you drive can be a big factor too I think.

I learned from will’s thread and some others , atsg book and keeping notes on clearances and hole sizes drilled. I built mine , then a sub contractor that was on a job I was also on, then my buddies , neighbors , people I never met from other towns just dropping trucks off and transferring money to my bank account etc.

Save a ton on labor and put it towards better parts. Building them for other people paid for a lot of the parts on my 95.

T case input swap was easy. That 400$ re I it looked brand new inside. Bad part is the cad on the front axle is pretty much stripped. Spinning while engaging 4wd I’d say. I was able to lock the cad fork over all the way by moving it and reinstalling the e clip. Should by me some time . I live in AK and can get by without 4wd during the winter but at least it’s there if I need it. I think I felt it popping a little if I put the pedal down.

My new 94 has 3ks I’m pretty sure. Rest of the truck is home stock , doesn’t smoke . Tach will hit 3k pretty easy , decent throttle response vs stock gsk
