...but i just bought a new 3rd gen OE 17" wheel (been rolling w/o a spare for a while now).

it looks like the chrome is just... attached to the wheel. anybody tried peeling that layer off? possible? stupid-looking afterwards?
 
Yeah, the wheels look horrible without that top "cover" on it. Not that I am a big fan of them anyway. I just painted mine black.
 
i just can't seem to bring myself to paint chromed wheels, as much as i don't like shiny. at least if i ripped it off i could say there's *actually* no chrome there...

but i'm trying to avoid bling, not attract ugly. thanks for keeping me from doing something dumb. =)
